The Culinary Boom in Peru

19.05.2010
Lima, Peru

In 2009, 2010, 2014 I traveled to Peru and made several stories about the culinary boom that started in 2008. Together with a journalist, we visited Central of Virgilio Martinez, Maido a top Chinese restaurant, Pedro's Schiaffino's Amas, where we tried dished inspired by the Northern Jungle of Peru. In Arequipa, I discovered the best Picanterias, in the streets of Lima we could not stop eating the takeaway ceviche from Al Toke Pez. We interviewed Gaston Acurio, a Chef and inspirator who's name is internationally very well known. He basically started this culinary revolution.
Our stories about food and travel were published in Dutch and Flemish magazines like Feeling magazine, Nouveau, KLM inflight magazine Holland Herald and Culy.nl
The first image if one of the founders of Ceviche a man of 86 years old, who still cooks in his restaurant. The second image is an example of stews in a Picanteria in Arequipa, that the men who make the best takeaway Ceviche, and one dish of the 16-course meal we enjoyed in restaurant Maido.
